Botox (Botulinum toxin) is a toxin obtained from a bacterium called Clostridium Botulinum. This substance relaxes the muscles by blocking the transmission of the stimulus from the nerves to the muscles. Applied to the mimic muscles leading to facial wrinkles, it is widely used to prevent the wrinkles in areas such as forehead, the areas between the two eyebrows, the corner of the eyes, upper lip and the corner of the mouth. Entire therapy lasts for 10 to 15 minutes and the patient can immediately return to his/her daily life following the procedure. Botox is also used to prevent the over-sweating of axilla, palms and soles. Persistency time for Botox is averagely 6 months, although it varies among people.
