Dermabrasion is one of the important surgical aesthetic procedures. It is a procedure to sandpaper or abrade the upper layer of the skin. This method is performed to create a smoother surface by abrading the irregular depressions and elevations of the skin surface. During the procedure, deep markings (scar) may be surgically removed, if present. Instead of dermabrasion, chemical skin peeling procedure may also be performed. Chemical procedure is usually used to eliminate more superficial wrinkles whereas dermabrasion is used for deeper depressions. One of the most important factors following dermabrasion is avoiding the direct sunlight exposure because the sunlight may cause persistent markings.
